Simple Starters for the Home Workout

March 24, 2018

When it comes to finding an approach to fitness, or a working fitness plan, you will hear me say this over and over again: Just like there is more than one way to skin a cat, there’s more than one way to trim the fat.

Translation: There is no one-size-fits-all solution to weight loss. For the simple reason that no two people are alike. We are all made up of different body types, different metabolisms, different mindsets, attitudes, and approaches to life.

I have my own approach to weight loss (which I have written about in past blogs and will cover again in future posts), and even though it works for me that doesn’t mean it will work for everyone. For that reason I will never try to push one plan over another.

When I scour the Internet and come back to share what I’ve found, my goal is to give you an idea of what’s out there so you can make an informed decision.

So, that being said, I thought I’d keep it simple today. Here are a few items--let’s call them fitness starters--that you can use at home. And they won’t deplete your pocketbook.

Synergee Gliding Discs

The Synergee Gliding Discs are great for low-impact, weight bearing exercises that will challenge your balance and help increase your flexibility. Included is a manual with five different exercises. And under the “Try to Think of Everything” category, the discs are double-sided so they can be used on either a hard floor or the carpet.

Fit Simplify Resistance Bands

Five color-coded bands in varying levels of resistance (from extra-light to extra heavy). These deceptively effective bands can be used for general exercise, stretching, strength and power training. They can also be incorporated into most popular workout programs (Yoga, Pilates, etc). You can also combine the bands to get just the right amount of resistance you’re looking for. Just don’t let the kids try to use them for sling-shots or bungee jumping.

In addition to a carry bag, this kit includes an instruction guide, a 41-page e-book, as well as bonus access to an online video workout guide, so you know exactly what to do and how to do it.

Neoprene Dumbbells

A great starter kit. Comes with three pairs of dumbbells (2-pound, 3-pound, 5-pound) and an easy to assemble weight stand. The neoprene coating provides a secure grip.

They’re ideal for resistance training and good for any number of exercises involving your chest, arms and shoulders. They can also benefit your legs and glutes when doing step-ups, lunges and squats.
